Mrs. Lieutenant is a great read for anyone who enjoys Vietnam-era historical fiction, stories about the life of a military spouse, or a book that explores the relationships between a group of diverse women.
To enter to win a copy, just leave a comment here by August 1, 2008, 11:59 PM EST with a question for Phyllis Zimbler Miller.
You can visit the Mrs. Lieutenant site and/or check out her guest post from last month for ideas. You must leave A QUESTION for the author. Comments that simply say, “win” or “hello” or “nice book” will not be eligible. All readers with US, US military, and Canadian addresses are eligible.

My question is – as a former army wife, how did you handle the red tape while your spouse was deployed? My husband was in the navy and we had a contact who assisted us, but my very good friend’s husband is in the army and in Iraq at the moment. She is struggling with Army housing and medical issues (she is pregnant with her second child and they are at a new base where she knows no one.) She is seeking advice and assistance and doesn’t want to stress her husband during their limited contact. What is the best way her friends can support her long distance?
Sorry that was so long and more than one, LOL. I would love to read this and pass it on to Amanda when I am done. Thanks!

I met my military husband online, in ‘05, while he was in Iraq. We married in ‘06, our second anniversary is coming up. He is getting ready to retire next year with 25 years! Proud to be his wife!

My husband is a Vietnam vet, and even though I sat and watched the planes landing with our lost ones in the early 70’s, I still love a good movie or read about the actual events. Through all the bad times its still good to see the uplifting moments created by our guys. Like many, my husband bottles up the past, so even a hint of the reality of it all is insight for me. My question is do you think movies portray some of the reality or is it all someones idea of what happened?

I just enjoyed reading the comments! I was on active duty for over 20 years but it is always interesting to hear about the military from the spouses point of view.
Being a former military wife, I know the struggles that a spouse goes thru. I would love to read this book!!!

where did the idea for the story in this novel come from?
My husband was in the army during the Viet Nam era……and I remember being glued to the tv…watching the nightly news reports. This was the first time that a war was brought right into our living rooms…..and it is probably one of the reasons Americans held such strong opinions about Viet Nam. Do you think that the coverage of the war in Iraq has been as “real”?
