A Prize for Military Supporters (USO Donation in Your Honor, The Sandbox, and a Bracelet)

Posted by Candace on Apr 20, 2008 | 542 Comments

USO PatchI have a great time participating in the Bloggy Giveaways, and the last few times, I’ve given a military book. Frankly, I’ve been pleasantly surprised at the number of contest entrants who popped over to enter either for themselves, or for those they know who are in need of some moral support.

This time, I was trying to think of something that was military related but would have a broader audience.

So, here’s the prize–a military supporter pack:

To enter, leave me a comment by 11:59 PM, Friday April 25th about how you show support for our troops–or leave a supportive message for our troops! Put your e-mail in the e-mail field and I’ll be able to reach you but it won’t be publicly visible. I’ll ship to any US, Canadian, or US Military address.

If you’d like to enter more contests, check out
The Bloggy Giveaways Carnival, this contest post is part of that carnival!

On my personal blog, I’m giving away a copy of Deceptively Delicious.

Also, we have lots of contests on Mamanista, my baby gear review blog.

I clip coupons for the Overseas Coupon program to support our military families stationed overseas to save money at the BX. I also like to donate used magazines to the library at the local veterans’ hospital. I have sent care packages to military personnel as well.

I am so happy to do what I can for military personnel, their families and veterans.

God Bless, and Love to all our troops!!

For the past two years I have sent all my magazines to wounded soldiers in military hospitals. I also have an “Adopted” soldier that I (and my church’s school programs) support by sending care packages. Supporting the troops with cards, letters, packages and magazines is the least I can do.

I am a Navy veteran, and am married to an active duty Marine. This is an awesome giveaway, in that you are not only giving a prize to an entrant, but you are also giving to the troops, as a whole, each and every one of those currently serving, or who are veterans, of the US Military/Armed Forces, in your donation to the USO. The USO is a wonderful organization, and I have more than once utilized their services, as have many people I personally know. Thank you, for this wonderful contest.

To show my support I wear an American Flag Pin everyday even when I am wearing a plain t-shirt! I always get weird looks, but I am a proud American and proud of our soldiers!

I have a 16 year old daughter who will be enlisting in 1.5 years. She’s been in ROTC for 2 years, and will finish the rest of her high school carreer in it. (by choice)

I have two other children who will be in ROTC in the next two years, so soon, there will be three of them there. They are all so supportive and are willing to join the forces wherever they are.

Thank you for the donation, and the sacrifice you experience everyday!

I have a long Military family history. My sister’s husband is Navy, my son-in-law is Army (currently in Iraq), my ex-husband is retired Marines. I would like to thank the military families for their neverending support of their spouses, fathers and mothers on the homefront.

I currently support the troops in Iraq by adopting a military member overseas to send care packages to every month. I found out about this project by going to http://www.webofsupport.com. My solder is from my hometown of Carson City, NV.
This is the second soldier I have adopted. The first soldier and I became great friends. I am sorry to say that he was KIA in Iraq last year. He is my greatest hero! This was the hardest thing I had to deal with but it made my resolve to help the military members in any way that I could.

My whole family is deeply thankful for the men and women who are doing the unthinkable for America. We cannot imagine what they are enduring every day, and what their families are enduring. We pray for all to come home quickly and safely.

Our scout troop had adopted a soldier in Iraq, and sent items she and her troops needed/wanted, as well as a collection of shoes for children at a school nearby her base. We had the opportunity to meet her in person over the holidays, and I am thankful to report that she is now out of the service.

I made them lots of cookies, pies, cobblers, and even a Thanksgiing dinner. In return, they gave me their friendship and a mailing address my family and friends could send things to. I’m not sure who raised whose spirits more.

What a great prize! The troops out in the war really don’t get enough support in my opinion. And I know because my brother just came home from being out in Iraq himself since he’s in the Airforce. How did I support him/them? Well I sent money and supplies. I also sent letters and cards to lift spirits. My message to our troops: “God bless you all for everything you do and each day you do it. Please take care of yourself over there and come home soon. You are missed and needed.”

We have been sending packages for years through adopt-a-platoon. My girls love to help pack things up and they also spent a part of their birthday and christmas money on items for the troops. When my brother-in-law got sent to Iraq, we started sending his unit regular packages. We also all write to him once a week so he gets plenty of support from home.
To the troop: God bless you for serving so faithfully, you are the reason I can tuck my chidren in at night and feel they are secure. Thank you!!

I had a friend in Iraq and sent him a huge box where I made up 30 “carepackages” in gallon sized ziploc bags. There was something fun, some treats to eat, and a note to each soldier. I sent them to him and he was able to hand them out to other troops. Of course, he got carepackages often and motomails at least twice a week. When he tired of MREs I sent a fifteen pound box of food that would survive the mail and wouldn’t spoil! I always included his favorite candy — bottlecaps. I appriciate his sacrifice and I was happy to do what I could for him.

What a great contest! My hubby recently returned from Iraq and I am an active volunteer with the family support for his unit. We are always looking for literature to pass around to the families. With a deployment coming up again within the yr this would be a great compliment to some of the other books we have. Thank you for your continued support.
To those not directly involved in the military the best way you can show your support is volunteer for your local family support groups, you do not need to be a family member and they are always grateful for any help you can offer (they are strictly non profit organizations and rely soley on donations from the community and volunteers who offer their time for free), even if its just helping with ideas for fundraisers or donating $5, especially in smaller towns. Thank you again to those you do continue to support the troops and their families!

My dad served in Vietnam as well as in Panama during the crisis there in the early 90s, so I know military family life (and sacrifice) very well. I am always in awe of what others give up…it was hard giving up my dad, but I know it must be incredibly hard giving up your husband….married now, I can fully realize what my mom went through.

I wish they’d still let you send homebaked goodies to the troops, but I hope to get a penpal for my son once he’s a little older. I had a penpal soldier in Iraq growing up and I would like to think my letters brought a few smiles!

    Thanks! ( meg.wilson@gmail.com )

My husband is a Msgt in the Air Force. He has been in the service for 26 years, and has been deployed more times than I care to count. He has missed birthdays, holidays, and countless school programs that our three girls have been involved in. But if you ask him if it was worth it, he would answer yes, and then some. I’m proud to be the wife of a career soldier, and proud of all our troops. May God keep them safe, so that they may return home to their patiently waiting loved ones.
